Archive Manager SharePoint
Edition archiving improves MOSS performance by significantly reducing
archived
file size.
Archived documents are replaced by a link in the
MOSS Portal which point to the stored file. This link (HTML shortcut) is held in
a database (ORACLE or MS SQL server) and refers to the actual archived documents
in the storage media.
The file itself is directed to a storage media via the integrated HSM (hierarchical
storage management). Documents that have been saved several times are centrally
archived
and duplicates are eliminated. End users are still able to access and edit
the document
as usual.
When a shared document is opened, edited and archived again, Archive Manager SharePoint
Edition recognizes the edits and stores a new version of
the document.
All versions of an edited document can be accessed within the SharePoint
application by authorized users.
Possible SharePoint Archiving Methods:
- Archive files older than n-time
- Compress files larger than n-KB
- Archive immediately when a file is saved
- View maximum versions of a file
- Archive by file type
- Archive when shortcut is created in MOSS portal
